The 944 must run this weekend. Must. Otherwise, I need to either scramble or start looking at back-up options. Problem is, I've been sick this week.
I can finally breathe out of my face this afternoon, but I've got the telltale signs of being out of commission all week: sore throat, hoarse voice and some kind of uncontrollable pho craving goin' on. Yesterday through this morning, I was in snotty, dribbly misery, and really needed one of those hanging tree sap buckets to catch what was oozing out of my schnoz.
It's in the low 60s today, though, so otherwise, it's the perfect day for whacking a 944 with a hammer. But how soon is too soon to resume un-snot-covered activity after a sick week?
So, options:
1. Wörk as usual, albeit maybe with an extra layer of warmth on. Try to put the brake calipers on, get the airbox tied down, and start checking the engine bay for anything that looks undone.
2. Some light wörk. Pick up new battery and drop it off by the car, see how to plug my open return line for the HVAC system that's been removed, check and see if my spark plug wires were put on correctly (I think I might be missing the little rubber dust shields at the bottom), measure vinyl sizes and GO HOME EARLY.
3. Nö wörky wörky. Töö söön, juniör. Get some pho (...phö?) and take a nap.
I'm leaning towards #2. Thoughts? And if #3 really is the best bet, when can I safely go reassemble all the things?

Question: Why does it have to run?
If you need it to run for work, get a rental and make Mr. Denton pay for it.
I'd say get an Uber, but I don't want Sam Biddle to have an aneurysm.
Where have all the lightweights gone?

I say try whatever you can do on the car in #2. If you feel up to it, move onto #1. The fresh air will do you well, and moving around should help clear you out.

4. Come by and fix the water leak on my 944. I'll interact with you through a hazmat suit and feed you pho through a tube while you're under the car.

It's Das LeMon. I want shakedown time.
I don't think Austin has Uber. Probably for the best. It'd find a way to smell like one of Leslie's (RIP) thongs within a manner of days.

This car. ZOMG. I swear, this car.
I AM SO DONE WITH WATERCOOLING.
If this engine goes, I'm throwing a Type 4 engine in the trunk like it should've had in the first place.

I tried to find an ad I saw from the 20s for a Franklin that was all about how water cooling was now outdated and air cooling was the wave of the future, but I couldn't. Sorry.

I just rebuilt the motor - block up - over the past year. Finally fired it up and it's pissing coolant from somewhere under the belt cover. Looks a bit oily. Awesome.

Mine was taking a wee out the front of the water pump. Bad pump. Grr.
Not fun.

I don't know how to "not-recommend" this post, but I would if I could. That just plain sucks.

I could probably all do this Saturday, but the more time I have to see if it runs, the more time I have to fix anything found after starting it up.

So what did you decide? Getting anything accomplished or are you putting it off until tomorrow?

All I care is that you feel better. The way to do that? Rest and plenty of fluids. The car will still be there.

Knowing at least part of its history, this doesn't surprise me. I'm all for an engine swap though.

I got a little bit done! Went with option #2. I was glad I did because it was gorgeous out tonight and I think the fresh air did me good. Also, I found my rubber sleeve thingies, got a new battery that shouldn't start smoking when we try to charge it (oops) and measured various parts of the car for vinyls. Whoohoo!
Well, except I didn't get to sleep early. I wanted the pics from LeMons 2010 and 2011 from my old computer and that took forever.

I should be back around Austin in a few days, if you need help let me know. If we bribe DatASSun with beer he'll probably show up too, actually we probably don't even need to bribe him.

I'm back in Austin now, should be around the rest of the week if you need any help. Probably going to take the Volvo to h2r to tomorrow for hoonage

SWEET! Yeah, I'm down to figuring out what's wrong with...maybe the valves in cylinder 2 are borked? Or maybe it just needs non-grungy oil in there? Doing an oil change? Replacing my coolant line nipple (actual name in manual, lulz)? Bleeding whatever crap's left in the brakes out? Hoping for da bes?
Lots of little stuff. Then it's hoonable.
Let me know if you're out that way. Car's at Brianne Corn Raceway, nipple should arrive Fri. or Sat., and that's gonna eat my weekend.

Yeah just let me know when your gonna be working on it. Shoot me a text at 313-310-3559. Took the Volvo to H2R today and hooned the shit out of it. Had to do it at least once since it looks like I'm going ahead with the trade to DJ. He's going to make it Harrison's daily driver, lol.
